RRB ALP New Vacancy 2025 Overview
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released a new recruitment notification CEN 01/2025 for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP). This post comes under Level-2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission. The total number of vacancies announced is 9970 across various zones. RRB ALP 2025 Selection Process
The selection process for RRB ALP 2025 involves five stages. Candidates must qualify each stage to proceed further.
- CBT-1 (Computer Based Test – Screening):
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Questions: 75 (MCQ)
- Subjects: Math, Reasoning, General Science, General Awareness
- Negative Marking: 1/3 for each wrong answer
- Qualifying only (not considered for final merit)
- CBT-2 (Main Exam):
- Part A: 100 Questions (90 minutes)
- Part B: 75 Questions (60 minutes – Qualifying Nature)
- Part A scores will be used for shortlisting
- CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test):
- Only for candidates applying for ALP
- No negative marking
- Qualifying nature, but marks carry 30% weight in final merit
- Document Verification
- Medical Fitness Test
Only candidates who are medically fit under Medical Standard A-1 will be considered for final appointment.

Educational Qualification
Candidates must have:
- Matriculation / SSLC / 10th Pass
- AND either:
- ITI Certificate in relevant trades (approved by NCVT/SCVT)
- OR Diploma in Engineering
- OR Apprenticeship Certificate under Act 1961
Trades accepted include:
- Electrician, Fitter, Mechanic Diesel, Wireman, Turner, Machinist, etc.

Analogies, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Syllogism, Puzzle, Series, Venn Diagrams, Number and Alphabetical Series, Data Sufficiency. - General Science:
Based on 10th standard level – includes Physics, Chemistry, Biology. - General Awareness on Current Affairs:

CBT-2 Syllabus
Part A – 100 Questions | 90 Minutes
- Mathematics (same topics as CBT-1 but at a higher level)
- General Intelligence and Reasoning
Advanced puzzles, decision making, analogies, input-output, assumption and conclusion-based questions. - Basic Science and Engineering
Engineering Drawing, Mass, Weight, Work, Power, Energy, Units, Speed, Basic Electricity, Heat, Environment Education, Levers and Machines.
Part B – 75 Questions | 60 Minutes (Qualifying Only)
This part tests trade knowledge as per DGT (Directorate General of Training) syllabus.
Candidates with ITI or Apprenticeship in a trade must answer from that trade. Diploma/Degree holders must choose a trade relevant to their field.
Trade examples:
- Electrical: Electrician, Wireman
- Mechanical: Fitter, Machinist, Diesel Mechanic
- Electronics: Electronics Mechanic
- Automobile: Motor Mechanic, Heat Engine
Minimum Qualifying Marks: 35% (for all categories)
CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test)
- Conducted only for ALP applicants
- Multiple test batteries to evaluate attention, memory, and perception
- Must score 42 marks in each test battery
- Marks of CBAT carry 30% weight in final merit (CBT-2 Part A marks carry 70%)
