Vacancy Details
SSC has announced about 2,536 tentative vacancies. However, the final number can change after SSC checks the documents from the hiring departments.
SSC has not announced post-wise and category-wise vacancies yet. Instead, it will add them later on its website under Candidate’s Corner > Tentative Vacancy.
In addition, SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancies. For those details, contact the hiring department directly.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
You need a Class 12 pass or an equivalent qualification from a recognized board or university. However, some DEO and DEO Grade ‘A’ posts need more. These posts are in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC, and the Ministry of Culture. For them, you need Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics.
Also, you can apply if you are appearing in Class 12 now. However, the board must declare your result on or before 7 October 2026. A result that is still in process does not count.
Age Limit
The age limit is 18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026. So, your date of birth must fall between 2 August 1999 and 1 August 2008, including both dates. For example, a candidate born on 1 August 2008 can apply.
Age Relaxation
Some categories get extra years on the upper age limit. Check the table below.
| Category | Extra Years |
|---|---|
| SC/ST | 5 years |
| OBC | 3 years |
| PwBD | 10 years |
| PwBD (OBC) | 13 years |
| PwBD (SC/ST) | 15 years |
| Ex-Servicemen (former armed forces personnel) | 3 years, after you subtract your military service |
| Defence personnel who acquired a disability in operations or disturbed areas and left service as a result | 3 years |
| Same group (SC/ST) | 8 years |
| Central Government civilian employees with 3+ years of regular service | Up to 40 years of age |
| Same group (SC/ST) | Up to 45 years of age |
| Women who are widowed, divorced or judicially separated and have not remarried | Up to 35 years of age |
| Same group (SC/ST) | Up to 40 years of age |
You need the right certificate to claim any relaxation. Otherwise, the hiring department can cancel your candidature.
Also, note one gender rule. The notification limits any Border Roads Organization (BRO) vacancies to male candidates. Other candidates can still apply for all other vacancies.
Application Fee
The fee is ₹100. However, you pay nothing if you are a woman. You also pay nothing if you belong to the SC, ST, PwBD or Ex-Servicemen category and qualify for reservation.
You can pay through BHIM UPI, net banking, or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro and RuPay debit cards. The payment deadline is 8 October 2026 (11:00 PM).
SSC does not refund the fee, and it does not move the fee to another exam. Moreover, SSC rejects any form that stays “Incomplete” because the fee did not arrive.
In addition, the correction window has its own charges. You pay ₹200 for the first correction and ₹500 for the second.
How to Apply Online
- First, visit ssc.gov.in or open the my SSC mobile app.
- Next, complete your One-Time Registration (OTR). The old OTR does not work on the new website, so create a new one if you need to.
- Then, choose the Aadhaar-based check if you want a simpler photo and ID process.
- After that, log in and open the CHSL 2026 application form.
- Enter your name, date of birth and parents’ names exactly as they appear on your matriculation certificate, because a mismatch can cancel your candidature.
- Next, take your photo live in the form. Also upload your signature as a JPEG file of 10–20 KB.
- Then, choose three exam centres in order of priority. All three must be in the same region.
- If you need to pay the fee, pay it before the deadline.
- Finally, check the preview, submit the form and save a copy.
Apply before the last day, because the website often slows down near the deadline.
Selection Process
SSC will select candidates in three stages:
- Tier-I: First, you take a computer-based test.
- Tier-II: Next, you take another computer-based test. A skill or typing test follows on the same day.
- Document verification: Finally, the hiring departments check your documents after the final result.
You must also score minimum marks in Tier-I and in Sections I, II and III of Tier-II:
- UR: 30%
- OBC/EWS: 25%
- All other categories: 20%
SSC will pick Tier-II candidates from the Tier-I results. Then, it will make the merit list from your Tier-II marks in Sections I and II. However, you must also pass Sections III and IV. Moreover, SSC will adjust the scores if the exam runs in several shifts.
Before the result, you must also choose your post preferences online. SSC treats these choices as final, so choose carefully. Otherwise, SSC will not consider you for that post.
If two candidates score the same, SSC checks Section I marks first. After that, it checks Tier-I marks, and then date of birth. In that case, the older candidate ranks higher.
SSC does not keep a waiting list. In addition, selected candidates serve a two-year probation period.
Exam Pattern
Tier-I
| Part | Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | English Language | 25 | 50 |
| II | General Intelligence | 25 | 50 |
| III | Quantitative Aptitude | 25 | 50 |
| IV | General Awareness | 25 | 50 |
Tier-I has 100 questions for 200 marks, and you get 60 minutes. Each part has its own 15-minute timer. Also, each wrong answer costs 0.50 marks.
Questions for Parts II, III and IV come in English, Hindi and the language you choose in the form.

In Section I, each subject gets a 30-minute timer. In Section II, English gets 40 minutes and General Awareness gets 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the notice states that each wrong answer costs 1 mark in Sections I, II and III.
Tier-II happens in two sessions on the same day. Sections I, II and III come first, and then Section IV follows. You must pass every section.
Eligible candidates with disabilities can use a scribe or assistive technology. They also get 20 extra minutes per hour of exam time.

- DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ in the three offices that need Maths: 15,000 key presses per hour, for 15 minutes.

- LDC/JSA: a 10-minute typing test at 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi.
Choose your typing language carefully, because you cannot change it later. Also, Hindi typists must use the Mangal font.

SSC gives a list of main topics. First, study the Tier-I topics. Then, add the extra Tier-II topics.
